The Yak Down Capsule - Honoring the raw heritage of the plateau, crafted with reverence

In November 2021, JNBY introduced its inaugural Yak Down collection - a curated line born from raw nature and traditional craft. To trace the origin of this exceptional gift, JNBY, alongside long-term partners, embarked on a journey to the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, stepping into an altitude of 4,600 meters to uncover the untamed beauty of the wilderness.

Living at 4,600 meters, the yak thrives on glacial water and alpine grass. To survive the brutal winters, they grow a layer of microscopic, dense underfleece. In spring, this down sheds naturally and is hand-gathered by local herders.

The material is extraordinarily scarce: an adult yak yields less than 300g of raw fleece annually. After processing, only the finest 10% - the ultra-soft combed yak down - is selected for our spinning.

Under a microscope, the inner core of each yak down fiber reveals a unique, bamboo-like hollow structure. These natural channels act as microscopic air pockets that trap body heat efficiently. It offers a weightless, incredibly powerful barrier against the cold.

Shaped by the brutal climate, yak down possesses a natural tensile strength 1.5 times greater than standard goat cashmere. It offers enduring resilience and naturally resists pilling, holding its fluid silhouette through years of daily movement.

True yak down arrives in its own organic shades - deep espresso, soft coffee, and misty grey. By skipping the harsh bleaching and chemical dyeing processes, we preserve the fiber's pristine protein structure and natural colorfastness.

As a pure gift from the plateau, our yak down is fully biodegradable, destined to return quietly to the soil at the end of its journey. Throughout the harvest, we deeply respect the laws of nature—employing ecological innovation to let the untamed beauty of the highlands live on in the contemporary wardrobe.

Community Sorting: Local women meticulously hand-separate the raw fleece, maximizing purity while fostering independent economic opportunities within the community.

Glacial Washing: The down is cleansed using pure mountain spring water paired with certified, eco-friendly biodegradable detergents.

Gentle Combing & Drying: To protect the delicate protein structure, the combed down is dried slowly at a controlled 70°C, preserving its signature softness.
